With minimal oral sedation, patients take a benzodiazepine sedative that allows them to stay calm, comfortable and in control for the duration of their appointment. There are no IVs and it works very well without the risks of being put completely under with general anesthesia. Some of the reasons patients choose the comfort of oral sedation include:

• Completing their entire treatment in one visit
• A bad gag reflex
• A traumatic experience from a previous dental procedure
• Complex dental treatment requiring a long appointment
• A high anxiety of dentists and a fear of needles

Prior to your appointment, you will be seen in our office to review your treatment to be completed and answer any questions that you might have. We will also discuss driving arrangements as you are not allowed to drive following your visit.

After your appointment, your driver will bring you home and you will want to rest for the remainder of the day. You will not be able to work this day, and you likely will have only a slight memory of your dental visit.
